Since 1889, the Athenaeum Club has brought together people from business, academia and the professions. The clubhouse is an Edwardian Baroque building on Davey Street in central Hobart. It was built in 1903 and has hardly changed since. Behind the historic façade, the staff know every member by name. On weekdays the club restaurant serves lunch, and the lounge has the daily newspapers ready with coffee and tea. The bar and the billiard room are good places to linger, and two private dining rooms suit conversations in a small group. A fine base for exploring Tasmania's capital.
